About me

Musician, journalist, music therapist.

My path led across the stage and through a newsroom to the bedside. What all of those places have in common: it is always about reaching people.

From Stemwede to Bayreuth

How I got here

I grew up in Stemwede in East Westphalia. I came to Bayreuth to study – music, theatre and media studies at the university – and I stayed. I have found friendships here that hold me.

After that I spent two years as a trainee at the Nordbayerischer Kurier, writing about concerts – pop as readily as classical. All at once I was no longer on the stage but in the audience. Making a living out of listening changes the way you hear music.

Music therapy was on my mind the whole time. In 2021 I completed my training as a music therapist at the IEK in Berlin, the German Institute for Relaxation Techniques and Communication. Since May 2022 I have been employed on the palliative care ward at Klinikum Bayreuth, and since that same year at the Albert Schweitzer Hospice as well.

Why music

“Music has a healing effect. It opens hearts.”

Almost everyone connects something with music – a song from childhood, one particular summer, one particular person. That way in often stays open when every other one has long since closed. On the palliative care ward that is exactly what counts: music reaches people when words have long since fallen short.

Nobody needs any musical experience for this. It is not about playing beautifully or professionally, but about giving shape to whatever is there. Sometimes it stays a conversation – and that is fine too.
